[edit]Pak Ou identifies the mounth of the Ou river that lies upstream on the opposite Mekong river bank side of the correctly named "Tham Ting" caves. Regrettably most tourist literature has this wrong.
Bpak = "mouth" (river mouth as well as human mouth); Ou = "ricebowl" that gave the "Mae Nam Ou" (Ou river) its name
Tham = "cave"; ting = "variable" which refers to the cave's varying entrance level when arriving on the Mekong by boat
